American Equality

One of the greatest values in American history is equality. Our nation was founded on the idea of all people having equal representation and treatment in the nation. Every single person living in the US is unique and different in their own way but they are still represented with equality in our society-everyone has the right to an education, everyone can vote, everybody has the freedom to practice their own religion, etc. Our government was founded off of the preservation of equality, this explains how the founding fathers wrote the government for America off of equal treatment for everybody after leaving Britain under the unjust rule of King George III.

Today everybody is entitled to the same freedoms including freedom of press, speech, religion, belief, etc. and everyone is allowed to express themselves openly and freely.

Then why does a nation founded on equal treatment and equal government need to discriminate against people that are deemed with an unequal right to life? If everyone is made equal in this nation then why can’t everybody have the same rights and deserve the same treatment? These minority groups are marginalized by society and left unrepresented by society.

  1. Hello, Ric! My name is Ms. Blair, and I have been observing your classroom for the past few weeks. I will also be student teaching in your class this winter. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your classmates throughout this school year!

This is a clear situation in which the reality of a society contradicts that society's values. Based on the inequality you mention at the end of your blog, do you think American society truly values equality for all Americans? How might we appeal to this value of equality to support fair treatment and equal rights for people from marginalized groups?
